Big News!

After floating on clouds for almost a full week... It's time to let my blog friends know that I got ENGAGED!!

It all started with my last post.. Here Kitty Kitty.

Michael and I had been looking for a cat for a month. Well, finally last Tuesday, the call that I had been waiting for came through. Geraldine Berry from the Cat Hut in Dayton, Ohio called to let me know she had a cat and I could pick him up on Saturday! A couple from Russia were planning on flying over to pick him up- but got into an accident and could not make the trip. Boy was I excited (not for their misfortune- just for the cat). I immediately called Michael and shared the good news- which wasn't good news to him. He started rattling off questions about the cat and made me question the decision of even getting one. I promised to call the breeder and find out some more information to rest his troubled mind. (little did I know I was ruining his master plan)

Two days passed and I decided I should give Geraldine a call. It was 4:37pm when I called her and after finding out that it was me the other end of the call she rushed to get off the phone. Boy was I aggravated.

One hour later I was pulling into the driveway. As I walked into the living room I greeted Michael with a big hello, complimented his shirt and inquired about the absence of the dog.

He asked me to have a seat.

I moved toward him- noticing he was covered in a blanket- and just as I was about to sit down ... he flipped the blanket down and out popped the cutest, softest, sweetest little kitten in the world!

I jumped back and said, "Who is that? Where did he come from?" and Michael just laughed.

He explained.. he had also been talking to the breeder and decided to make an impromptu 6 hour trip to pick up our sweet cat. Micheal explained to Geraldine that he had to come early because he wanted to propose. So when I called her that day she was being short because she didn't want to give any hints that Michael already had the cat.

(Carlisle with the ring)

I started crying over the thought of him being so selfless and driving all that way so I could have my cat 2 days early. I held my kitten and looked into Michael's beautiful eyes.

After a couple of painstaking long minutes (for him) went by Michael told my that the cat wasn't the only surprise. He turned him around and hanging from his bright red ribbon was the most breathtaking ring I have ever seen in my life. He slid down on one knee, untied the ribbon and asked me to marry him. Talk about water works... I had mascara all down his nose.

Then he smiled and told me to look in the corner- a video camera had captured every sweet second.

Needless to say this has been the BEST week of my life. I am so lucky to have found such a loving, caring, honest man. I truly adore him and can't wait to spend the rest of my life laughing and celebrating with Michael.

We are truly blessed.

Here Kitty Kitty Kitty...

You know that saying ...
You always want what you can't have?

Well, that is how I have been feeling for the past 3 days. Our entire Saturday was devoted to finding a new feline to add to our clan. We searched and searched for our sweet little guy, but came up empty handed. Michael and I called every Maine Coon breeder in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and West Virginia. NOTHING!!!

I have been lobbying for a small (cat, dog, pig, etc.) for awhile now and I have finally convinced Michael to add a cat to the family. We first considered adopting a kitten from the local animal shelter but then decided against it due to the fact that it was...
A) Hard to find a young kitten at a shelter (most were at least 1 yr. old)
B) We didn't want it to have any bad habits.
C) Thought is would be easier to introduce the kitten to Otis if it came from a socialized environment and not from a cage.

So here we are... a few days later and cat-less. I know the right kitten is out there- I just don't like to wait. All the spring litters will be ready for pick-up around April 1st. But Mr. and Ms. Impatient can't wait. We want our little guy NOW!!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Secret Cleaning Tips

I received a great email from Real Simple this morning. They revealed 10 Sure-to-Surprise You Natural Cleaners. I have listed some of my favorites below....

White bread : Dust an oil painting. Gently dab a slice of white bread over the surface to pick up dirt and grime.

Ketchup: Remove tarnish from copper and brass cookware. Squeeze ketchup onto a cloth and rub it on pots and pans. They should go back to their coppery color in minutes. Rinse with warm water and dry with a towel.

Rice : Clean the inside of a vase or a thin-necked bottle. Fill three quarters of the vessel with warm water and add a tablespoon of uncooked rice. Cup your hand over the opening, shake vigorously, and rinse.

Club Soda: Shine up a scuffed stainless-steel sink. Buff with a cloth dampened with club soda, then wipe dry with another clean cloth.

Hydrogen Peroxide: Disinfect a keyboard. Dip a cotton swab in hydrogen peroxide to get into those nooks and crannies.
